Message from the Provost

HamzaWelcome to the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, the UAE’s first sustainability-focused graduate institute and one of the few in the world dedicated to providing real-world solutions to issues of sustainability.

Since establishment in 2007, Masdar Institute has successfully completed its first phase of growth and I have been honored and privileged to be chosen as the Interim Provost to guide Masdar Institute on its second phase of continuing innovation and achievement.

While my appointment as Interim Provost reflects a new phase of its development and evolution, Masdar Institute remains committed to its mission of supporting Abu Dhabi’s transformation to a knowledge economy. It is also continually responding to the emirate’s evolving strategic goals and needs, like the National Innovation Strategy and the UAE Mars Mission. Since their announcement the Institute has launched the region’s first Master’s degree specialization in advanced space systems and technology to help develop the research and human capital required for the UAE’s space ambitions, and the iInnovation Laboratory, a dedicated space to mentor, beta test, network and imagine new innovative concepts in the UAE.

As the Masdar Institute Interim Provost, I am working to ensure that Masdar Institute continues to meet the needs of our emirate – Abu Dhabi, nation and the world. To aid us in that objective, we will pursue greater collaboration with local, regional and international partners in industry, academia, government and NGOs, to effectively and efficiently accelerate the pace of innovation and cascade shared benefits to all.

Masdar Institute’s vision, like the vision of the Abu Dhabi government whose support has made its existence possible, is ambitious. Achieving these goals will happen with our collective efforts and it will happen. We are on a journey of transformation and discovery and I invite you to be part of this journey.

If you want to be an active contributor to a sustainable, prosperous, and innovative future, then join Masdar Institute. Join us as we ‘learn to change the world’.

Sincerely,
Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf
Interim Provost
